Principal’s Corner

Stephanie Burgess

Dr. Stephanie Burgess brings a heartfelt commitment to Gilbert Middle School. Her journey in education began in the classroom, where she served as a National Board Certified science teacher for a decade. This foundational experience in teaching paved the way for her transition into leadership in 2011. For 14 years, Dr. Burgess served as an assistant principal at Lexington High School.

Dr. Burgess, holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lander University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Winthrop University. She earned a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Carolina. Her leadership was recognized statewide in 2022 when she was named the South Carolina Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year by SCASA. She maintains active professional connections through her memberships in ASCD and NASSP.

At the core of Dr. Burgess’ work is a simple guiding philosophy: doing what’s right for kids. She is passionate about ensuring that Gilbert Middle School is a place where every student can belong, grow and serve.
